Biography
Originally from El Paso, Texas, Miguel has created a versatile career as a teacher, cellist, and arts administrator. He holds the firm belief that music is a journey that is very personal and can exist in many forms.
Incredibly passionate about teaching, he has served as an orchestra director at schools in Texas, Oregon, and Arizona. His orchestras have garnered critical acclaim having received superior ratings at adjudicated festivals.
As an orchestral cellist, Miguel has performed with the Las Cruces Symphony (NM), Sierra Vista Symphony (AZ), Arizona Pro Arte Ensemble (AZ), Salem Chamber Orchestra (OR), Oregon Festival Chorale Orchestra (OR), Williamsport Symphony (PA), Altoona Symphony (PA), Nittany Valley Symphony (PA), West Valley Symphony (AZ), Musica Nova Orchestra (AZ), and the Flagstaff Symphony (AZ).
Administrative experience includes having served as the Administrative Director of the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestras, a program with over 300 students across 4 orchestras. It was in this position that began Miguel’s passion for learning how arts organizations run and how they can be used as a tool to create a positive impact in communities through music. Miguel has also worked for the Hot Springs Music Festival (AK) as an Arts Administrative Apprentice and at the Bowdoin International Music Festival as a Residence Life Assistant and Coordinator of Community Concerts.
Miguel's cello mentors include Zuill Bailey, Theodore Buchholz, and Al Laszlo. Miguel has also had the opportunity to perform in master-classes for Narek Hakhnazaryan, Jeffery Solow, Matt Haimovitz, David Finkel, and Alan Harris.
Miguel holds a Bachelor of Music "cum laude" from the University of Texas at El Paso where he studied with Zuill Bailey, a Master of Music Education from the University of Arizona where he studied cello with Theodore Buchholz and string music education with Donald Hamann, and a Master of Music in Cello Performance from Penn State University.
In addition to these accomplishments, I have also recently gotten certified in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) / TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). To view my TEFL/TESOL portfolio please visit www.miguelcampostefl.weebly.com.
